Lukashenko gives instructions to set up council for IT development in Belarus

MINSK, 13 March (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko instructed to establish a council for the development of the IT industry in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“We considered setting up a council that may comprise civil servants responsible for making decisions (especially legislative ones), investors working in high-tech, and scientists,” Belarus president's aide Vsevolod Yanchevsky said.

According to him, the council members could promptly discuss new ideas. “Most importantly they will discuss what the state should do to achieve even better results, to promptly settle any problems,” he said.

Vsevolod Yanchevsky said that one of the major problems in the high technologies sector is that the regulatory process is not always in sync with the rapid development of this sector in Belarus and in the world in general. “Many countries face this problem. We need to adjust our laws to the sci-tech progress as fast as possible. Here, we need to do our best to at least keep abreast,” the president's aide said.

Investor Mikhail Gutseriyev stressed that the council for the IT industry will focus on raising investment and attracting investors to Belarus. “This will include new companies, personnel training, and product making in Belarus. The president has set forth such a task. We will prepare the necessary documents within the next two or three months,” he added.
