Lukashenko criticizes work with military personnel in Belarusian army

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) – The Defense Ministry has not paid enough attention to the work with the military personnel in the Belarusian army, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the session of the Security Council on 13 February, BelTA informs.

“I want the Defense Minister to inform the Security Council about the measures that are taken to improve the state of affairs in the Belarusian army, raise motivation and improve military service conditions. It is very bad that the Defense Ministry has not paid enough attention to the work with the military personnel,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “Perhaps, it is not as terrible as I have just said, but we know such facts.”

The president emphasized that bulling in the military and other violations should have been forgotten in the Belarusian army long ago. “What is the ideological and educational branch is doing in the Defense Ministry? Probably, corresponding officials having to do a lot of paperwork and other formalities are still using obsolete methods of work,” the head of state said.

In his words, he also has a number of questions regarding the performance of prosecution bodies. “Why is the system deployed only after emergency situations? How will you ensure the observation of law in military units in the future?” the head of state asked. “I think that the Prosecutor General's Office and other prosecution bodies should advance from occasional statements in mass media to more systematic work.”

At the session the president also urged the Defense Ministry to step up ideological and information work immediately. “You are not doing it well enough. For example, the coverage of the Zapad 2017 military exercise in the mass media was not well organized at first,” the Belarusian leader said.
