Lukashenko calls for stronger employee discipline

ZHITKOVICHI DISTRICT, 28 April (BelTA) – Discipline in workplaces should be toughened, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting in the Zhitkovichi District Executive Committee on 28 April, BelTA has learned.

“If you see that someone is not coping, there is no need to keep them in the managerial positions. It is time we started tightening the screws. You (chairman of the district executive committee – BelTA's note) should do it at your level, and the head of an enterprise in his team. But do not interfere with the work of an enterprise. On the contrary, support and protect them,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The head of state drew attention to the problem of alcoholism. “Discipline requirements will be toughened considerably. If there is no discipline, there is no work. Discipline and technology are the main things!” the Belarusian leader stressed.

“Therefore, discipline requirements should be toughened. This applies both to Gomel Oblast and the country as a whole,” the president said.

The meeting examined the performance of industrial and agricultural enterprises of Zhitkovichi District. Specific instructions have been given.

The meeting participants discussed the issues regarding housing construction, personnel retention, wages. The head of state urged to redouble the effort to raise the average wage to the Br1,000 mark.

Zhitkovichi District is a promising mineral land. Zhitkovichi District and Gomel Oblast in general have peat and sapropels deposits. The products are in demand in the European Union and other regions, Belarus' Vice Premier Mikhail Rusy said. Work is underway to develop these deposits and promote the products.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed to the companies' debt burden and emphasized the need to secure their effective performance and return of loans.

The head of state added that poaching and corruption are inadmissible. “A manager should be clean as a whistle. You must be perfect. Otherwise, we will lose the country,” he said.

The president also spoke about business promotion in the country and the recently adopted documents to liberalize doing business conditions. Managers, however, will be held responsible for ensuring proper working and safety conditions.
