Belarus president receives report from KGB Chairman Valery Vakulchik

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko met with KGB Chairman Valery Vakulchik to receive his report on 2 May, BelTA has learned.

“I have already spoken about the performance of the KGB and thanked the personnel. I want to stress once again that anticorruption activities can be seen. The KGB pays much attention to this work. It is very good,” the president said.

At the same time, the head of state asked about the state of affairs in the prevention and exposure of corruption. “What are the most disturbing factors in this field?” Alexander Lukashenko asked.

The president stressed that the KGB also has specific functions that no one else can perform. These include intelligence, counterintelligence, antiterrorist activities, protection of the constitutional system. “You are in charge of it too. Everybody must understand, including the society, that the committee is working in this field. And what are the results here?” the Belarusian leader wondered.

He also spoke about public security. “There have been a number of large-scale events attended by many people. Soon we will celebrate Victory Day and Independence Day. We should see if there are any problems before these events. And how does to committee evaluate the situation in public security in general?”

The meeting also focused on other issues, including the personnel issue.

Alexander Lukashenko also gave an instruction to provide as much information about the performance of state security bodies as possible to people. “They should not say that we are hiding something. Indeed, some issues should not be known to everybody. But we do not need to conceal anything for the most part,” the head of state remarked.
