Some $10.5m to elect municipal councils of deputies in Belarus

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – About $10.5 million will be put aside to organize the elections to the 28th convocation municipal councils of deputies in Belarus in February 2018. The information was released by Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina after she met with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 14 November, BelTA has learned.

The official said: “The elections budget will be roughly as much as we spent in 2014. In foreign currency terms it will be close to $10.5 million. If we talk about Belarusian rubles, it will be some Br21.2 million.”

In her words, the head of state has given instructions to reduce the cost of setting up polling stations. “All these costs should be covered by the organizations hosting the polling stations. It is our usual practice. It will be so,” assured the head of the Belarusian election organization agency.

According to Lidia Yermoshina, money to be spent on materials and technical components will not exceed 17% of the total. “Salaries will make up the rest of the sum. The salaries will be commensurate with the average salary in the country,” explained the official.
