Polish Marshal: Neighbors should be engaged in a dialogue

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Poland are back on track towards cooperation and trust building, Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski said in an interview with the SB. Belarus Today newspaper.

“I am glad to pay a visit in the year that is marking the resumption of our relations and our readiness to get back on track towards cooperation and trust building. It was the decision of Poland's new government, and the first step in this direction was made in March 2016 when Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski paid a visit to Belarus. I am 100% agree with what he said then, that neighbors should be engaged in a dialogue, even when they have different points of view on some matters,” Stanislaw Karczewski said.

According to Stanislaw Karczewski, Belarus and Poland have been recently engaged in an active dialogue, searching for areas of common interest. “It turns out that we can have much more areas of common interest than we may think. Poland lies on the border with the EU, while Belarus is a border of the Eurasian Economic Union. The two countries share one transport route from the east to the west, which can bring a lot of chances and benefits,” he stressed.

The Marshal of the Senate of Poland emphasized that “the European Union is currently living though a crisis as its elite could not listen to and see the expectations and concerns of ordinary people.” “This, however, is not a solely European phenomenon, and this year's presidential election in the United States proves it. As a result of several simultaneous crises, i.e. the escalation of terrorism and religious fanaticism that entailed a flow of immigrants, economic recession and financial crisis, the old democratic institutes can no longer deal with emerging problems and cannot assure people that their problems will be addressed,” he said. According to Stanislaw Karczewski, the state should return to its basics, which is the security of its citizens, providing freedom of action to activists and help those in need.
