Outdated stereotypes in new USA administration's policy towards Belarus

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – It is regretful that outdated and totally biased stereotypes with regard to Belarus still linger in the policy of the new administration of the United States of America. The relevant statement was made by Maria Vanshina, Deputy Head of the Information Office, Head of the Press Service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, when asked to comment on another extension of the executive order signed by the then U.S. President George W. Bush in 2006 to introduce “a state of emergency” against Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs remarked that the latest step by the USA repeats similar decisions made in the past years. “The statement by the American side saying that Belarus, which does everything possible to enhance regional and international security, can represent any threat to the USA is absolutely unacceptable for us. It is possible that more time is needed to overcome the certain inertia that is still present in our relations,” said Maria Vanshina.

The official went on saying: “We are intent on continuing the constructive dialogue we've begun with the USA and speak consistently in favor of mutually beneficial cooperation. We are confident that the advancement of this cooperation will contribute to positive changes in Washington's foreign policy.”
