MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – A new revision of Belarus' Military Doctrine has been brought into the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, the press service of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament told BelTA.
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko approved the document as a result of the Security Council session on 22 January. The Military Doctrine had to be revised due to changes of the military and political situation in the world, the nature of armed conflicts, and modern trends in the development of the Belarusian state. In particular, the document now contains the term “domestic armed conflict”. “Countries that try to enforce their policy upon other nations often try to reach military and political goals through reliance on domestic destructive forces. Since the matter of domestic armed conflicts inside many countries is a topical one, serious attention is paid to the problem,” Colonel Oleg Lyubochko, head of the research institute of the Belarusian army, said earlier about the matter.
In turn, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Stanislav Zas told media that the doctrine now specifies directions for developing the defense branch of the national economy. “The doctrine takes into account changes in forms and ways of modern warfare. Classic wars were replaced with a different kind a long time ago, including the so-called hybrid wars. The fact was taken into account during the development of the new doctrine. Certainly, information confrontation is at the forefront. At present it is one of the very serious components of military action. Changes in other matters have been taken into account as well,” noted the State Secretary.
