Lithuanian Peasant and Greens Union convincingly wins Seimas election

Vilnius, 24 October (BelTA - ELTA) - According to the reports of the Central Electoral Commission (VRK), which has counted all results from a total of 1,922 polling stations in Lithuania, the Lithuanian Peasant and Greens Union has comfortably won the runoff election.

The LVZS has secured 35 seats in the new Seimas.

The Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) has won 10 mandates in the second round of parliamentary election, the Liberal Movement - 6, the Social Democrats - 4, the party Order and Justice - 3, the Labour Party - 2.

Also, representatives of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania - Christian Families Alliance (LLRA-KSS), the Lithuanian Green Party (LZP), the political party List of Lithuania, and the Lithuanian Centre Party have obtained 1 mandate each.

Four independent candidates also have been elected to the new Seimas.

Two candidates representing LLRA-KSS and one representing TS-LKD were elected to Parliament in single-member constituencies already in the first round on 9 October after receiving more than 50 percent of votes.

The TS-LKD won 20 parliamentary mandates in the multi-member constituency on 9 October. The LVZS finished second with 19 mandates, followed by the LSDP with 13, the Liberal Movement with 8, the LLRA-KSS and the party Order and Justice both with 5.

As a result, the LVZS which won a landslide victory in the elections to the Seimas has a total of 54 mandates, the TS-LKD - 31, the LSDP - 17, the Liberal Movement - 14, the LLRA-KSS - 8, the party Order and Justice - 8, independent candidates - 4, the Labour Party - 2, the Lithuanian Green Party (LZP) - 1, the political party List of Lithuania - 1 and the Anti-Corruption Coalition of Kristupas Krivickas and Naglis Puteikis - 1.

The Seimas, the Parliament of Lithuania, consists of 141 MPs. 71 of them are elected directly in single-member constituencies, while 70 are elected in the multi-member constituency based on political parties' lists.
