Japan to expand diplomatic presence in Belarus in 2019

MINSK, 8 August (BelTA) - Japan will expand its diplomatic presence in Belarus in 2019. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich with head of the Japan-Belarus group of inter-parliamentary friendship, Chairman of the Special Committee for Regional Revitalization of the House of Representatives of the Japanese parliament Hiromichi Watanabe on 8 August, BelTA has learned.

“We are glad to learn that you have taken a decision to open an embassy in Belarus in 2019,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

At present Japan's interests in Belarus are represented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki. There is also Japanese Ambassador to Belarus Hiroki Tokunaga who serves as Charge d'Affaires.

According to Hiromichi Watanabe, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary will be sent to Belarus in 2019. “Thanks to this move the relations between our countries will become more vibrant,” he said.
