Great potential in Belarus-Slovakia relations

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – There is a significant potential in Belarus-Slovakia relations. Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajcak made the relevant statement after meeting with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 22 June, BelTA has learned.

Miroslav Lajcak said: “On the one hand, political dialogue and economic cooperation have radically changed for the better in the last 12 months. Yet we see unused room for contacts in the area of culture, education, and student exchange programs.”

Vladimir Makei stated that the potential of Belarus-Slovakia cooperation is far from being exhausted. For instance, in 2016 Belarus-Slovakia trade went beyond $160 million, however, the figure used to reach $270 million in the past. “Our task is to at least reach the levels we had before and move on from there. I am convinced we are capable of accomplishing it,” he stressed.

Belarus and Slovakia have sketched out concrete joint projects in pharmaceutics, power engineering, nuclear energy, mechanical engineering, and other spheres. Getting them implemented fast is what matters. It is also necessary to prevent minor problems from interfering with the pace of bilateral cooperation, concluded Vladimir Makei.
