EAEU hopes to establish full-scale interaction with EU in foreseeable future

MOSCOW, 18 January (BelTA) – The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) hopes to ensure full-scale interaction with the European Union in the foreseeable future, Tatyana Valovaya, Member of the Board (Minister) for Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), noted at the expert discussion on the potential for EU-EAEU cooperation during the Gaidar Forum in Moscow, BelTA learned from the EEC press service.

“What we need is a working dialogue between the European Commission and the EEC whatever the political context. We have an expertise in a wide range of matters: trade policy, customs administration, technical regulation,” Tatyana Valovaya said.

The EEC minister outlined the general outlook on the current state of economic cooperation and prospects for interaction between the EAEU and the EU as the most advanced regional associations in terms of economic integration levels. Business actively promotes EAEU-EU cooperation and basically is a sort of a catalyst of their relations. Tatyana Valovaya considers it necessary to listen to the European businessmen who have repeatedly spoken about the negative effect of the economic sanctions for both sides.

She reaffirmed the EEC's readiness for dialogue and added that the two unions are destined for cooperation, taking into account their long-standing economic ties. “This dialogue should have two vectors: the first one being pragmatic, absolutely apolitical, concerning current matters which fall within the EEC's competence. The other one should be related to forming the agenda of strategic partnership,” the EEC minister underlined.
