CSTO calls on Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan to address border issue peacefully

MOSCOW, 3 May (BelTA) - Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas calls on Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to solve the border issue through peaceful means only. He said that the CSTO is ready to provide all necessary assistance, CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA.

“I express my sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of the killed people from both sides. The continuation of the armed confrontation on the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border raises serious concerns. The conflict must be resolved exclusively through peaceful negotiations. For this purpose, the CSTO is ready to provide Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan all necessary assistance in resolving the conflict in case they apply to the organization with a relevant request. It is impossible to allow further deaths and suffering of people. I am confident that the leadership of both states has enough wisdom and determination to resolve this complex border issue within the framework of the interstate negotiation process on the delimitation and demarcation of the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan state border,” said Stanislav Zas.
