Contact group on Ukraine to reconvene 12 April

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – The next meeting of the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine will take place on 12 April, OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group Martin Sajdik told the media on 29 March, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that the talks continued to be centered on security matters, including compliance with the ceasefire regime, full implementation of the agreement on the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the creation of security zones, including those to protect civilians and vitally important infrastructure.

The participants of the meeting discussed further release of persons detained in view of the conflict. “Today's discussions highlighted the possibilities of developing a mechanism with the participation of a third party to verify if a person wants to stay in the territory where he was detained after being released. The group also discussed matters related to the protection of civil population,” Martin Sajdik said.

The working group on economic affairs discussed the issues related to the blockade of the ways of communication, the introduction of the so-called external management of the companies which fall under Ukraine's jurisdiction and are situated on the territory of certain districts of Ukraine's Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast. The parties supported the idea of creating security zones around key infrastructure.
