Contact group on Ukraine request UN help in POW release

MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – The trilateral contact group on Ukraine has addressed the United Nations for help in releasing prisoners of war, OSCE special representative in the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik told the media on 15 February, BelTA has learned.

Martin Sajdik said that the meeting on 15 February continued the discussion of the issue related to the release of persons illegally detained due to the conflict in Ukraine.

“It was decided to address the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Geneva with a request for its representatives to act as mediators in the procedure of verifying the intentions of those citizens who, after release, voice their wish to stay in the territory where they were held,” he said.
