CIS IPA Council to discuss International Parliamentarism Day initiative

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – The initiative to institute the International Day of Parliamentarism will be on the agenda of the meeting of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) Council in Saint-Petersburg on 27-28 March, BelTA has learned from the website of the CIS Executive Committee.

During the meeting, the CIS IPA Council is expected to adopt the statement “On the 25th anniversary of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States member states”. The participants will also discuss the initiative for the International Day of Parliamentarism; consider the results of the recent referendum in Kyrgyzstan and the observation during the forthcoming 2017 electoral campaigns in the CIS countries; and assess the CIS IPA achievements in 2016.

The CIS IPA will also hold the 46th plenary meeting. The draft agenda of the meeting includes 12 draft model laws and recommendations approved by the permanent commissions. About 9 more documents can be added to the draft agenda following the permanent commission meetings.

CIS Executive Secretary, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev will speak at the meeting to mark the 25 years of the CIS IPA on 27 March. Sergei Lebedev will also participate in the parliamentary conference on combating international terrorism, organized together with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on 28 March. The conference will consist of three thematic plenary sessions: International cooperation in security and countering terrorism, Humanitarian aspects of counterterrorism action, and Economic and social basis of the international security system.

The conference will gather representatives of the legislative and the executive power of the CIS member states, representatives of international organizations, scientific community, and foreign experts.

A Belarusian delegation will attend the forthcoming events in Saint Petersburg, informed the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
