CIS foreign ministers approve documents for CIS Heads of State Council session

SOCHI, 10 October (BelTA) – A package of documents which will be submitted for consideration to the CIS Council of Heads of State on 11 October has been approved at the session of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, BelTA has learned.

The ministers of foreign affairs considered a package of documents aimed at promoting and expanding cooperation in various fields on the CIS agenda. In particular, they approved the draft statement of the CIS heads of state on supporting families and traditional family values, the resolution of the CIS Council of Heads of State to announce 2019 the Year of Book and 2020 the Year of the 75th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The ministers approved draft resolutions on the division of powers between the Council of Heads of State and the Council of Governments, the concept of cooperation in countering corruption, the agreement on the exchange of information on the prevention of terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism in the CIS.

The ministers of foreign affairs also approved the document on the upgrade of the CIS joint air defense system to meet the challenges of aerospace defense. They approved the plans of action for 2018-2020 to implement the program for the promotion and development of national sports, the strategy of international youth cooperation, and the strategy of developing cooperation in tourism.

The CIS Foreign Ministers Council decided to give the status of a basic organization in the CIS for the training, retraining, professional advancement of HR personnel to the Belarusian National Technical University.

The diplomats discussed a set of organizational and practical measures to adapt the CIS to modern realities in the context of raising the efficiency of statutory and departmental bodies of the CIS.

The draft documents will be submitted for consideration to the CIS Council of Heads of State. The session of this council will take place in Sochi on 11 October.

It is expected that the next meeting of the CIS ministers of foreign affairs will be held in Minsk on 6 April 2018.
