Belarusian MPs to review agreement on mutual trade assistance with Turkey

MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) - Members of the Belarusian parliament are going to review the intergovernmental agreement on mutual trade assistance with Turkey, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Commission of the House of Representatives of Belarus Ivan Korzh.

The agreement on a mutual trade assistance system was signed in Minsk on 11 November 2016. “The document will help facilitate international trade, step up the efficiency and reduce the time spent on customs control procedures. This will affect Belarus-Turkey trade in a positive way,” Ivan Korzh clarified.

The mutual trade assistance system is based on sharing important information about the movement of goods and vehicles. It means that export and import companies that provide reliable information on the movement of goods will have priority at customs checkpoints over the companies that opt out of the procedure.

“The document aims to set up priorities in customs clearance and facilitate customs procedures where it is possible. It envisages special lanes at customs checkpoints to reduce the time spent on customs procedures. The agreement also allows bypassing customs control unless signs of customs violations or contraband are present,” Ivan Korzh noted.

The intergovernmental agreement offered for ratification defines key principles in the movement of goods and vehicles. It takes into account Belarusian and Turkish legislation, norms, standards, UN and World Customs Organization recommendations and international best practices in this field.
