Belarus views CEI as a platform for dialogue to promote regional stability

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – Belarus views the Central European Initiative as a platform for promoting dialogue to ensure stability in the region, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov said at the international conference Pan-European Integration Processes: Towards a Mutual Vision through Cross-Border Synergies on 27 October, BelTA has learned.

“We view the CEI as a platform for promoting dialogue and pragmatic cooperation between the countries of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe in order to ensure stability in the region. It is important to use the capacity of the organization to promote sustainable economic development and strengthen links in the Pan-European space,” Yevgeny Shestakov said.

Belarus will assume its first-ever presidency of the Central European Initiative in 2017. “Compatibility in the broadest sense of the term will be the thematic priority of Belarus' CEI presidency. We understand it as the development of infrastructural links between the CEI member states in transport and energy, and as the creation of synergies, complementary and effective mechanisms for cooperation between the various integration processes in which the CEI member states are involved,” Yevgeny Shestakov noted.
