Belarus to promote economic digitization initiative in Eastern Partnership

BRUSSELS, 27 November (BelTA) – Belarus intends to actively promote the economic digitization initiative in the Eastern Partnership, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media after the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels on 24 November, BelTA has learned.

“The digitization of the economy (someone is talking about Industry 4.0) is our future. We are gearing up for a meeting with the participation of the head of state, which, I am confident, will make the IT sector more attractive in Belarus. Therefore, this initiative holds great prospects. Of course, we need to promote this initiative, and we do within the framework of the Eastern Partnership and in our cooperation with the European Union. Belarus' initiative has the support, and I am convinced that we will achieve success here,” Vladimir Makei said.

The minister recalled that in due time Belarus initiated the business dimension within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, and this proposal was supported. A few years ago Belarus also suggested working towards the harmonization of digital markets of the Eastern Partnership countries and the EU. It also received strong support, and as a result the digital economy development program was drawn up.
