Belarus thanked for successful CSTO presidency

MINSK, 30 November (BelTA) – The CSTO member states thanked Belarus for the successful presidency in the organization, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said on behalf of the participants of the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to thank, on behalf of us all, the Belarusian side for the successful CSTO presidency during the past period,” the Kazakhstan president said.

Kazakhstan takes over the CSTO presidency from Belarus. Nursultan Nazarbayev outlined its priorities during the summit. These include expanding a set of tools of interaction between the CSTO member states in the military sphere, the practical organization of military-technical cooperation of the CSTO member states, the CSTO's participation in the establishment of the international system of counteraction to terrorism. The priorities of Kazakhstan's presidency will also be implementing joint measures to respond to cybersecurity threats and increasing the efficiency of the measures to counter illicit drug trafficking.

The Kazakhstan leader also thanked Belarus and Alexander Lukashenko for the traditional hospitality and excellent organization of the summit. Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the session was held in the year when the CSTO marks the 25th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and the 15th anniversary of the organization.

The leaders of the CSTO member states discussed the current situation in the world, outlined the measures to strengthen collective security, reviewed the agenda and endorsed all documents.
