Belarus, Russia see no military solution to crisis in Ukraine's east

MOSCOW, 5 June (BelTA) – The crisis in Ukraine's east cannot be resolved through force of arms, BelTA learned from the joint statement signed by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on 5 June.

The document emphasizes: “The Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation proceed from the premise that the crisis in Ukraine's east cannot be resolved through force of arms and should be resolved by political and diplomatic means on the basis of the Minsk agreements in their entirety and consistency.”

The document also reads that using the OSCE venue Belarus and Russia intend to continue coordinating approaches to the most topical items on the OSCE agenda and will push for reforming the organization, including the adoption of an OSCE charter. “We will continue working together with regard to the Council of Europe,” the document reads.
