Belarus, Russia put forward draft statement against dilution of non-intervention principle

MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – The draft statement of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council against the dilution of the principle of non-intervention was put forward by Belarus and Russia, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the meeting of the council in Minsk on 6 April, BelTA informs.

Vladimir Makei thanked his colleagues for the preparations for the event. In his opinion, the meeting was constructive and open. Specific agreements were reached to update the concept of the CIS further development. The sides did not abandon the idea of further cooperation within the CIS framework and decided to adjust the concept to new realities in the face of new challenges.

The Belarusian minister emphasized the importance of the draft statement against the dilution of the principle of non-intervention out forward by Belarus and Russia. “Today some players are actively interfering in the internal affairs of several countries under plausible pretexts. Take a look at what has happened in the Middle East. This is the result of interference in the internal affairs,” the minister noted. The statement emphasized the unacceptability of such approaches that force some stereotypes on those with totally different aspects of development.

Chairman of the Executive Committee, Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev added that the meeting participants expressed unanimous opinion on the subject and the heads of the delegations agreed to work on every detail of the document.
