Belarus, China coordinating agreements on migration, readmission

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Belarus and China are preparing agreements on migration and readmission. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Belarus' Interior Minister Igor Shunevich and China's State Councilor, Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun, BelTA has learned.

The Chinese minister of public security paid his first visit to Belarus. Previously, Igor Shunevich met with Guo Shengkun during his working visit to China. Back then, the parties outlined the main areas of bilateral cooperation. The current talks highlighted the previously-reached agreements. The parties also talked over the major vectors for further development of bilateral relations. Currently, China is considering two agreements: on migration and readmission. “I hope we will do our best to sign them within the shortest time possible,” the Belarusian interior minister said during the talks.

The Interior Ministry is interested in studying China's best practices in the areas such as the fight against drugs trafficking, high technology crimes, illegal migration, and interregional crimes. Belarus has rich experience in training specialists for foreign states. The country has the necessary legal framework, experienced teachers, and a certified center at the Academy of the Interior Ministry. “We are ready to consider the possibility of training Chinese specialists in Belarus, including the mutual organization of language courses for the law enforcers of the two countries,” noted Igor Shunevich. The two countries are coordinating a draft protocol on cooperation in the education sector. The minister suggested intensifying the consideration of the document with a view to signing it in the near future.

Necessary equal conditions have been created for the cooperation between the law enforcement bodies of the two countries. The protocol on cooperation between the Interior Ministry of Belarus and China's Ministry of Public Security for 2017-2018, signed in Beijing in 2016, and also the memorandum of understanding between the main department of the Interior Ministry troops and the Chinese People's Armed Police for the same period promote the development of bilateral relations. The law enforcers of Belarus and China, as was stressed during the talks, cooperate in various areas and are determined to expand this range.
