Christmas lights in Minsk

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) - The lights on Christmas trees in Minsk have been switched on, BelTA informs.

The lights will remain on through 13 January, during the hours of darkness till 23:00 and from 6:00 till the street lights are turned off. On 24 and 31 December, 6 and 13 January the lights on Christmas trees will stay lit as long as the street lights do.

Minsk's central avenues will be lit up on 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 December and 6, 7, 13 January.

BelTA reported earlier that it costs Br350 for the capital to run Christmas lights for an hour. The lighting elements are basically modern energy-saving lighting solutions.

Festive atmosphere will be created in the capital with the help of habitual lighting patterns and some new elements. For instance, an illuminated figure “Clown” will be installed near the Belarusian State Circus in the run-up to children's matinees. The city has already been decorated with an illuminated 3D ball near the Minsk House of Football, a book near the National Library, a harp near the Belarusian State Philharmonic, a tractor in Partizansky Avenue, a gift near the GUM department store, and a hockey puck near Minsk Arena.
