MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – The Sports Science Marathon, running until 24 December, commenced at the National Olympic Committee of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
The event opened with the 3rd international scientific and practical conference “Applied sports science: Traditions, realities, prospects”. As part of the seminar “Train smart! A course in sports literacy,” presentations were delivered by staff of the National Science and Treatment Center for Sports, members of the Association of Sports Psychologists, and renowned Belarusian athletes. These included world championships medalist (wrestling) Kiryl Maskevich and World Cup medalist (speed skating) Ignat Golovatsiuk.
“In Belarus, science is given enormous attention,” noted Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk. “During a recent meeting, the head of state emphasized that ‘there can be no country without science.’ And without sports science, sports cannot exist. Everyone present at the conference is making great efforts to ensure our sports develop at the highest level, and today, Belarusians are showing good results on the international stage.”
“Success in sports is 45% dependent on medical and biological support,” said Boris Polyaev, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, and President of the Russian Association for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation of Sick and Disabled Persons. “The psychological component is also important; everyone is familiar with burnout, irritability, and lack of concentration. The athletes themselves actively participated in the seminar and, using practical examples, discussed various conditions that must be managed.”
