Sasnovich out of 2025 Indian Wells

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 115 Aliaksandra Sasnovich failed to reach the 2025 Indian Wells main draw, losing in the first round of qualifying to Germany’s world number 78 Eva Lys, 4-6, 3-6, BelTA has learned. 

The main draw will kick off on 5 March. Playing will be two Belarusian players – world number one Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka, who is currently ranked 35 in the world.

Victoria Azarenka will play on the Indian Wells courts for the 16th time. She is a three-time winner of the event (2009, 2011, 2016). In 2023 Aryna Sabalenka reached the Indian Wells final to lose Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina. The previous edition was won by Iga Swiatek of Poland. This time’s winner will earn $1.2 million and 1,000 points.
