MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – Belarusian alpine skier Maria Shkanova did not advance to the second run of the Women’s Slalom event at the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Italy, BelTA has learned.
A total of 95 athletes started the race in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Shkanova completed the course in 51.86 seconds, finishing 43rd and trailing the leading time of American Mikaela Shiffrin by 4.73 seconds. The second run, scheduled to begin at 15:30 Minsk time, will feature the 30 fastest skiers from the first run. Shkanova was nearly two seconds short of qualifying.
The 2026 Olympics mark the fifth Games appearance for the 36-year-old Maria Shkanova. Her best result in Olympic slalom was a 20th-place finish in Beijing 2022. In Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014, and Pyeongchang 2018, Maria competed in three events (super-G, slalom, and giant slalom), finishing in the top 30 twice.
