MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – A meeting between President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko and the Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said took place in Muscat, the capital of Oman, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.
The parties discussed avenues of cooperation in sports. The Olympic Committees of the two countries had signed a memorandum of cooperation a year earlier. Belarus and Oman plan to develop ties between federations in athletics, weightlifting, swimming, taekwondo, cycling, and fencing.
“We have established friendly relations with the Oman Olympic Committee. We will back up the agreements we have reached with tangible steps. Despite the geographical distance, Omanis and Belarusians are similar in many ways. We will share all our expertise and help develop sports and areas of interest to Oman. At the same time, I am confident we also have much to learn from you,” Viktor Lukashenko noted.
“I am pleased that the relations between our two sports organizations are advancing and that there are many different avenues for deepening cooperation. I agree, there are many similarities between our countries, and your nation’s experience in developing athletic talent is of great interest to us. In this regard, Oman could be a willing learner, studying your methods for achieving top results at world championships and the Olympic Games,” Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said said.
The cooperation program is set to deliver concrete results across several fronts. It will include mutual participation of athletes in competitions hosted by both countries and the organization of joint training camps. The partners intend to facilitate an exchange of specialists and enhance collaboration in youth sports. Another key component is participation in joint educational events such as congresses, conferences, seminars, and courses. The parties will also share expertise in the construction of sports facilities, sports medicine, marketing, event organization, and so on.
