MNSK, 15 September (BelTA) - President of the Belarusian NOC Viktor Lukashenko expressed hope that the restrictions on Belarusian athletes will be lifted as he talked at the expanded meeting of the NOC and ROC Athletes' Commissions in Moscow, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian NOC.
"Following today's discussion, we see that the athletes of Belarus and Russia have the same questions. We feel a slight thawing at the international sporting level, and we very much hope that the illegitimate sanctions will be lifted. Our athletes should be training for the Olympic qualifying competitions, which have already begun, and for the Games proper," Viktor Lukashenko emphasized. “We have held competitions that allow athletes to get good practice and keep themselves in shape. We will hold tournaments with the countries that are members of the SCO and BRICS, which is very important.”
The forum, which will be running in the Russian capital for two days, has brought together more than 200 athletes representing all Olympic sports. Together with representatives of sports federations, they are set to discuss topical problems of the sector, the situation in the international sports movement, the education of athletes and the possibility of their self-realization after retiring from sport.
