MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) - The National Paralympic Committees of Belarus and Russia have signed an agreement on cooperation to develop Paralympic sports, TASS reports.
The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Paralympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Shepel and President of the Russian Paralympic Committee Pavel Rozhkov. The heads of organizations met on the sidelines of Belarus' Open Swimming Cup in Brest. The tournament brought together Belarusian and Russian athletes with musculoskeletal disorders and visual impairment.
"Amid the sanctions from Western countries on Russian and Belarusian sports, the main thing is to preserve sportsmanship, international competitive experience and establish interaction with the federations that cooperate with us," Pavel Rozhkov said. “This document will strengthen friendly relations and further expand our opportunities for the development of the Paralympic movement in both states. Russia and Belarus have strong Paralympic teams in swimming, athletics, cross-country skiing, biathlon. Therefore, the cooperation agreement will help athletes from both countries not only to remain leaders in these sports but also to improve results in other sports.”.
