MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) - HC Meshkov Brest drew with Montpellier HB 31-31 in the EHF Champions League group stage, BelTA has learned.
The Brest team finished the first half slightly behind, 17-18. Soon after the break the Brest team took the lead and held it for a long time. Four minutes before the final hooter the visiting team took to the front, but Meshkov managed to restore parity, 31-31. Nikita Vailupov led his team with nine goals. In the first match Montpellier HB beat Brest 32-26.
Norway's Elverum Handball lost 28-34 to Denmark's Aalborg, Croatia's HC PPD Zagreb edged North Macedonia's Vardar Skopje, 23-22.
The Group A team standings are as follows: Montpellier HB – 16 points, Aalborg – 14, THW Kiel – 13, Elverum Handball – 8, HC PPD Zagreb – 6, Vardar Skopje – 5, HC Meshkov Brest – 4.
The Group B team standings are: Lomza Vive Kielce – 14, Telekom Veszprem HC – 12, Barca – 11, Paris Saint-Germain Handball - 11, HC Motor - 8, SG Flensburg-Handewitt – 7, FC Porto – 5, C.S. Dinamo Bucuresti - 4.
The EHF Champions League group stage will end on 9 March 2022, after which the top two teams in each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Teams ranked 3rd-6th will play for a place in the quarterfinals.
