MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) - Belarusian tennis players have advanced to the quarterfinals of an ITF tournament in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, BelTA has learned.
In the women’s singles round of 16, Belarusian player Daria Khomutsianskaya defeated Serbia’s Petra Konjikusic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in an hour and a half. In the opener, the Belarusian left Finland’s Iida Heinonen no chance for success, 6-0, 6-0. Daria’s next opponent will be either Poland’s Weronika Ewald and Julia Adams of the USA. In the women’s doubles quarterfinal, Daria Khomutsianskaya and Russia’s Daria Egorova will face the Latvian-U.S. tandem of Kamilla Bartone and Savannah Broadus. In the first round, the Belarusian-Russian duo won a hard-fought match against the German-Romanian pair Anja Wildgruber and Briana Szabo, 7-5, 7-5.
In the men's singles second round, Belarusian player Erik Arutiunian outplayed Italy’s Samuel Vincent Ruggeri in a three-set match, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-1. The match lasted two hours and 35 minutes. In the round of 32, Erik Arutiunian defeated Russian player Evgeny Philippov, 6-4, 6-3.
The tournament in Sharm El-Sheikh will be over on 7 December.
