Belarusian diplomats take part in SCO Kunming Marathon

MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) - Representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the People's Republic of China participated in the 10th Kunming Marathon of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), one of the key sporting events aimed at developing humanitarian ties among the organization's member states, BelTA learned from the Embassy of Belarus in the People's Republic of China.

In 2025, the SCO Kunming Marathon was awarded World Athletics Gold Label status. This signifies that it is among the world's most prestigious marathons and has received the highest category rating on the scale of the Chinese Athletics Federation. This year, approximately 26,000 participants took part in the two races (marathon and half-marathon).

Diplomats from the embassy traditionally joined the starting line together with representatives from SCO countries, professional athletes, and amateur runners. Particular attention was drawn by the participation of a Belarusian diplomat in the half-marathon, which underscored the Belarusian side's commitment to actively promoting healthy lifestyles and international sports cooperation.

On the sidelines of the event, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to China Aleksandr Chervyakov held meetings with Cui Li, Vice President of the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation Commission of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Zhang Xin, Executive Director of Yunnan Shanghe Culture and Sport Company, and Kanat Amankulov, President of the Athletics Federation of Kyrgyzstan.

The parties discussed prospects for further deepening partnership in interregional, cultural, humanitarian, and sports domains, including expanding the participation of the Belarusian side in SCO projects aimed at strengthening friendship between peoples.
