MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – The first stage of the 2026 Russian Biathlon Championships, featuring Belarusian athletes, has kicked off in Izhevsk, Russia, BelTA has learned.
The competition opened with the men’s 20-kilometer individual race, which saw 95 biathletes at the start line, including 12 Belarusians. Stsiapan Danilau delivered the best result among the Belarusian athletes, finishing seventh with two penalty minutes. Aleksandr Golyak placed ninth in the final standings, having missed one target. Eduard Latypov claimed victory in the individual race to become the Russian champion.
As for the other Belarusian participants, Mikita Labastau finished 15th, Maksim Varabei was 29th, Gleb Orlovsky – 34th, Vitaly Kazachenok – 36th, Kirill Baburov – 57th, Pavel Belko – 58th, Aleksei Logvinov – 67th, Pavel Matsul – 70th, Andrei Gavrosh – 74th, and Denis Yeremov – 79th.
The women’s individual race starts at 1 p.m. The biathletes have a rest day on 9 January, with the mixed relay scheduled for 10 January. The 60-person mass start races will be held on 11 January. The top athletes of the Belarusian national team – Anton Smolski, Dzinara Smolskaya, Dzmitry Lazouski, and Hanna Sola – are not competing at the tournament in Izhevsk.
