Belarus win rhythmic gymnastics silver medals at CIS Games

MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes have won the first rhythmic gymnastics medals at the 3rd CIS Games in Azerbaijan, BelTA has learned.

On Tuesday, 7 October, junior gymnasts competed for three sets of medals - in the individual and group all-around, and the team event. In the group exercises, Belarusians Varvara Artemenko, Karolina Tsydik, Maya Klimko, Yuliya Druzhinina, Arianna Parkhacheva, and Margarita Silich scored a total of 49.35 points for their performances with five hoops and five clubs, earning the silver medal. The Russian team was first with 52.65 points and Uzbekistan placed third (45.05).

The individual all-around featured 30 athletes from nine countries. Belarusian  Kira Babkevich, Anastasiya Ilyenka, and Margarita Zhurovich placed fifth through seventh, respectively. Kseniya Perapialitsa finished in 12th place. Sofia Ilteriakova (Russia), Azada Atakishiyeva (Azerbaijan), and Aiganym Rysbek (Kazakhstan) had podium finishes. Kira Babkevich was less than one point behind the bronze medalist.

In the rhythmic gymnastics team final, both team members' best two individual apparatus scores and the scores for the two group routines are combined to determine the total team score. The Belarusian team accumulated a total of 245.699 points, securing second place behind Russia (256.963). The final day of the 3rd CIS Games, 8 October, will feature the individual apparatus finals. Belarusian Kira Babkevich will compete for medals in the ball, hoop, and clubs finals and Anastasiya Ilyenka will perform her ribbon routine in the finals.
