MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Special Olympics team has won five gold medals at the Open Masters Games in Abu Dhabi, BelTA has learned.
The final competition day was a true test of speed and endurance. Our athletes took on the 200-meter distance. Representing the Belarusian team at the start line were brothers Oleg and Aleksandr Medovsky, Anna Pestova, Alesya Poznyak, and Grigory Dyuvbakov. Every meter of that distance was not just seconds on a stopwatch but a story of overcoming and an incredible will to win, which our team demonstrated at the Zayed Sports City arena.
“This year’s Open Masters Games welcomed athletes with psycho-physical developmental disabilities for the first time, and the Belarusian team has etched its name into this history. The Games’ awards are not just medals; they are about inclusion and real sport for everyone. We are proud of our champions; they are an example that true passion for sport knows no barriers. Our team returns home not only with awards from the Games but also with bright emotions and new friends from all over the world,” Larisa Tabolina, the head of the Belarusian delegation, said.

The Belarusians were able to participate in these competitions thanks to the long-standing cooperation between the Presidential Sports Club and the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee. Prior to the Games, the Belarusian delegation was warmly received at the Belarusian embassy in the United Arab Emirates. In addition to an official meeting, Belarusian diplomats prepared an interesting cultural program. The guests visited the most vibrant and iconic places in Abu Dhabi and then relaxed on the coast of the Persian Gulf.
