
MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes will compete in the 2025 World Wrestling Championships that will kick off in Zagreb, Croatia on 13 September, BelTA has learned.
More than 800 athletes, including 19 Belarusians, will take part in the tournament. The freestyle wrestling event will take place on 13-16 September. Belarus will be represented by Aryan Tsyutryn (57kg), Dzmitry Shamela (up to 61kg), Islam Guseinov (up to 65kg), Vitaly Ignatovich (up to 74kg), Mahamedkhabib Kadzimahamedau (up to 86kg), Yaraslau Iadkouski (up to 92kg), Aliaksandr Hushtyn (up to 97kg), and Dzianis Khramiankou (up to 125kg).
The women’s wrestling event will be held on 15-18 September. The list of participants includes Belarus’ Natallia Varakina (up to 50kg), Kseniya Stankevich (up to 53kg), Iryna Kurachkina (up to 57kg), Nadzeya Bulanaya (up to 59kg), Veranika Ivanova (up to 62kg), and Anastasiya Zimiankova (up to 76kg).
The tournament program will conclude with Greco-Roman wrestling matches on 18-21 September. Belarusian athletes Hleb Makarenka (up to 67kg), Aliaksandr Liavonchyk (up to 72kg), Stanislau Shafarenka (up to 87kg), Kiryl Maskevich (up to 97kg), and Pavel Glinchuk (up to 125kg) will compete for medals.
At last year's World Championships in non-Olympic weight classes in Albania, Iryna Kurochkina won a bronze medal. At the previous full-scale world forum in 2023 in Serbia, Vanesa Kaladzinskaya became a silver medalist in the 53kg weight category.
