Belarus President’s team celebrates fourth win in new RHL season

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) - The hockey team of the President of Belarus secured its fourth victory in the regular season of the Republican Hockey League (RHL) on 4 January, BelTA has learned.

Today the Belarus President’s team defeated the Vitebsk Oblast team 10-4 (3-1, 5-1, 2-2) at the Olympic Arena in Minsk. 





The hosts opened the score six minutes into the game, thanks to Andrei Kostitsyn, the tournament's top scorer, assisted by Aleksandr Lukashenko. Aleksandr Zelenko doubled the score, just before Yaroslav Demidov narrowed the gap. Pavel Volchek summed up the first period with a goal to make it 3-1. At the start of the second period Aleksandr Lukashenko assisted Yaroslav Chupris, who increased the advantage of the president’s team. Two minutes later, Yaroslav Chupris scored his second of the night, with Andrei Kostitsyn's assist. Yaroslav Chupris had a hat trick just before the second hiatus. Pavel Volchek also scored his second goal for the home team, and Maksim Parfeyevets added one more. Oleg Polyakevich scored one back for the visitors. In the final stanza the teams traded two more goals each. Among the scorers were Konstantin Durnov, Nikolai Lukashenko, Andrei Kravchenko and Igor Kovalenya.







Yaroslav Chupris and Vitaly Kiryushchenkov were named players of the match. They got prizes from Chairman of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Aliaksandr Bahdanovich.

Traditionally, numerous fans enjoyed spectacular musical acts, took part in contests on the ice, and received soft toys from the Belarus President’s team.

In the first round, the Belarus President’s team defeated the team of Grodno Oblast in Minsk (10-3), the team of Gomel Oblast in Zhlobin (5-2), and the team of Brest Oblast in Minsk (8-2). After four matches played, the Belarus President’s team goes with eight points. The team’s top scorer is Andrei Kostitsyn, with 14 points (four goals and ten assists).

In the final series of the previous edition the Belarus President’s team defeated the team of Minsk Oblast twice – 5-2 and 10-8 to win the event for the 15th time. The teams of Gomel Oblast and Minsk Oblast won the tournament once each.

The amateur ice hockey tournament is organized by the Presidential Sports Club, the Sport and Tourism Ministry and the Minsk City Hall.
