Belarus’ NOC reviews weightlifting Olympic preparations

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko and Belarusian Sports Minister Sergei Kovalchuk met with the national weightlifting team on 22 June, BelTA learned from the NOC press service.

Sports officials met with weightlifters, coaches, representatives of the federation and the Staiki center to discuss the development of the sport. The agenda included Olympic preparations, peak performance, medical support, and nutrition.

“The doors of the NOC and the Sports Ministry are always open: come and speak openly about any problems if they arise. The Olympics are the result of our joint efforts, which must be built systematically and effectively. Two years is a short time, and we cannot afford mistakes. A balanced approach is needed not only for this period but also for the long term. We provide the conditions, you deliver a worthy result for the country, so that the investment is not wasted,” said Viktor Lukashenko.

Sergei Kovalchuk, in turn, emphasized the importance of the administrative and management apparatus in ensuring timely protection for athletes. “The federation officials must defend athletes’ rights in any ambiguous situations. We need to act promptly and see things through, so that everyone knows that Belarusians are not to be messed with. If there are issues, file an appeal immediately. Let those who act dishonestly be ashamed. We cannot sweep such situations under the rug or let them go. Athletes must know that they are protected,” he added.

A series of meetings with national teams in summer sports is held ahead of the start of the qualification period for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
