Putin sends greetings to Union State forum

MOSCOW, 22 June (BelTA) - The resilience of the Brest Fortress defenders will never be forgotten, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his greetings to the participants of the Union State International Forum Great Heritage, Shared Future, BelTA learned from the Kremlin press service.

Vladimir Putin noted that it is symbolic that the forum is held on the truly sacred soil of Brest, the land that exactly 85 years ago took the brunt of the Nazi onslaught. “The unparalleled feats, resilience and self-sacrifice of the Brest Fortress’ defenders, who were the first to stand in the way of the treacherous and brutal enemy, will never be forgotten,” he emphasized.

“It is important that the bonds of brotherly friendship and mutual support, forged on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War, help Russians and Belarusians develop multifaceted cooperation, build the Union State together, and defend their legitimate interests on the international stage today. Traditionally, cooperation between legislatures, as well as activities within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, are a substantial element of bilateral ties,” the Russian leader emphasized.

According to him, people’s deputies who enjoy great authority and prestige can, undoubtedly, accomplish a lot for preserving the memory of our shared glorious history, for raising younger generations in the spirit of humanism and patriotism. “The presence of representative delegations from friendly countries at the forum confirms that a big part of the international community fully shares our values and principles, strongly opposes attempts to whitewash the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their accomplices, and is ready to combat any manifestations of Neo-Nazism,” Vladimir Putin stated.

He expressed confidence that the joint work during this significant event would be constructive and fruitful, and would serve to further strengthen mutual understanding between our peoples.
