MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes won 12 medals at the European Sambo Junior Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, BelTA has learned.
Belarusian athletes won two gold, four silver and six bronze medals. European U18 champions are Artsiom Leanovich and Herald Krasouski. In the up to 58kg category, Artsiom Leanovich defeated opponents from the Netherlands, Greece and Armenia, and then beat Georgia’s Giorgi Mebagishvili in the final. In the up to 79kg category, Krasouski overcame rivals from Serbia, Latvia and Georgia, and then defeated Armenia’s Gor Muradyan in the decisive bout.
Belarusian athletes Uladzislau Shadryn (up to 64kg), Pavel Mishchanka (up to 88kg), Ruslana Shoba (up to 54kg) and Aliaksandra Maiseyenka (up to 59kg) were defeated in their finals. Third place in their weight categories went to Anhelina Shynkarova (up to 47kg), Stefaniya Martsynkevich (up to 72kg), Varvara Belachub (up to 80kg), Valeryia Zhohlik (up to 80kg), Andrei Shmoila (up tp 71kg) and Artsiom Koutsiukh (over 98kg).
On 22 and 23 April, Novi Sad will host the European Sambo Youth Championships (under 21). Over 350 athletes from 23 countries take part in competitions in Serbia.
