Belarus’ Kudzinau wins bronze at 2025 World Karate Championships in Egypt

MINSK, 1 December (BelTA) - Belarusian athlete Ivan Kudzinau claimed bronze at the 2025 World Karate Championships in Cairo, Egypt, BelTA has learned.

Ivan Kudzinau won the medal in the +84kg category. In the tournament’s group stage, the Belarusian secured victories over karatekas from Serbia and Ecuador but lost to a representative from Australia. In the first playoff round, Ivan defeated Russia’s Makar Golovin, but in the quarterfinal, he was bested by Italy’s Matteo Avanzini. In the bronze medal bout, the Belarusian athlete defeated Azerbaijan’s Asiman Gurbanli, a multiple medalist at world and continental sporting events, with a score of 8-2.

Earlier this year, Ivan Kudzinau took first place at the prestigious Series A international tournament in Cyprus. In total, approximately 400 athletes from 88 countries participated in the 2025 World Karate Championships in Egypt. The Belarusian team was represented by three athletes. Maryia Azarava (-61kg) fell short in her bronze medal match, and Devid Nhuyen (-75kg) concluded his performance in the preliminary stage.
