Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka loses in Dubai round of 16

MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus did not make it into the quarterfinal of the Dubai Tennis Championships, BelTA has learned.

In the second round world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka lost to world number 25 Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 4-6, 4-6. The match lasted for an hour and 25 minutes. In the quarterfinal Petra Kvitova will face Latvia's world number 21 Jelena Ostapenko who defeated Poland's world number 9 Iga Swiatek, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

In the round of Last 32 Aryna Sabalenka saw off Ukraine's world number 49 Marta Kostyuk, 6-4, 6-1.

Belarus' world number 17 Victoria Azarenka lost to Russia's world number 31 Veronika Kudermetova, 3-6, 4-6.

In the round of Last 16 in Marseille Belarus' world number 49 Ilya Ivashka will face Italy's world number 119 Stefano Travaglia. In the opener the Belarusian defeated Slovakia's world number 114 Norbert Gombos, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. In the men's doubles opener Belarus' Andrei Vasilevski and Romain Arneodo of Monaco lost to Polish duo Szymon Walkow and Jan Zielinski, 2-6, 2-6.

The tournament in Dubai will be over on 19 February, the Marseille event – on 20 February.
