Athletes Village opens in Tokyo

MINSK, 13 July (BelTA) - The Athletes Village for the Tokyo Olympics was opened in the capital of Japan, 10 days before the start of the Games, BelTA learned from the press service of the NOC of Belarus.

The village is located on the shores of Tokyo Bay and is designed to accommodate 18,000 athletes and representatives of national teams.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the facility was opened without official ceremony. The village clinic will operate round-the-clock work to examine athletes displaying symptoms of the infection.

Olympic athletes will need to limit their stays in the village to a minimum by checking in five days before they compete and leaving the site within two days after their events finish.

The Olympic Media Center was also officially opened. More than 6,000 journalists have been accredited for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
