MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Belarus' match against Cyprus as part of the 2023 UEFA European U21 Championship qualification has been rescheduled, BelTA has learned.
The match was initially slated for Saturday, 5 June, at Torpedo Stadium in Zhodino. At the request of the Cyprus Football Association and in agreement with UEFA the match was postponed to 1 June 2022. A friendly between Belarus and Lithuania, scheduled for 8 June, will not take place as well.
The match against Cyprus was supposed to be the first one for Belarus in Group D. Cyprus have already played one match, drawing 0-0 against Greece in Athens. The group will also feature Portugal, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Sergei Yasinsky's team will play their first qualifying match on 2 September 2021 against Iceland.
The qualifiers will last through mid-June 2022. The nine group winners and the best runner-up will qualify directly for the final tournament, joining Georgia and Romania. The other eight runners-up will play off for the remaining four finals berths in September 2022.
