What selective border checkpoint survey in Belarus revealed 

MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - The Belarus’ National Statistical Committee reported on the preliminary results of a selective survey of individuals at Belarusian road border checkpoints conducted in October 2025, BelTA has learned.

A total of 2,072 questionnaires were distributed across four road border crossing points, of which 1,678, or 81%, were completed. Among the border crossers, the country’s non-residents accounted for 44%. They completed 738 questionnaires. Belarusian citizens completed 940 questionnaires.

Approximately 43.2% of the total number of those who entered the country declared imported goods (443 out of 1,025 people). The export of goods was reported by 29.4% of the surveyed individuals who had departed Belarus during the survey period (192 out of 653 people). Goods were primarily imported from Poland (79.3% of the total value) and Lithuania (19.8%). These were mainly plumbing fixtures (imported at an average value of $277 per person who declared this type of goods and its cost), computer and communications equipment ($274), televisions ($260), auto parts ($169), electrical household appliances ($166), power tools and chainsaws ($165), perfumery and cosmetics ($117), footwear ($99), clothing ($95), and medicinal products ($88).

“The export of goods was carried out mainly to Lithuania (51.7% of the total value of exported goods) and Latvia (40.1%). The main types of exported goods were computer and communications equipment (exported at an average value of $236 per person who reported this type of goods and its cost), clothing ($94), electrical household appliances ($89), footwear ($86), gasoline and diesel fuel ($66),” the press service noted.

As for international tourist flows, the main purposes of trips for Belarusians traveling abroad included visiting relatives and friends (35.3% of the total number of completed questionnaires), and rest, treatment, excursions, and pilgrimage (16.4%). For non-residents entering the country, the main purposes were visiting relatives and friends (58.5%) and transit travel (22%).

“The survey results showed that the largest number of interviewed citizens of Belarus were traveling to Poland (59%), Lithuania (19.5%), Spain (5.8%), Germany, and Italy (3.6% each). During the same period, individuals entering Belarus through road border crossing points were primarily residents of Poland (25.8%), Lithuania (19.1%), Germany (15%), Latvia (13.8%), and the Russian Federation (11.1%). The trips of citizens of Belarus during the survey period were mostly short-term (3 days or less). This trip duration was indicated by 57.4% of residents. The duration of stay for foreign citizens on the territory of Belarus was no more than 5 days (52.5% of the total number of non-residents),” the agency reported.

Belarusians during their trip utilized private accommodations (24.7% of the total number of persons who completed questionnaires), stayed with relatives and friends (24.6%), and used hotel services (22.1%). Non-residents of Belarus during their trip stayed with relatives and friends (35.2%), used private accommodations (21.6%), and lodged in holiday homes and sanatoriums (19.4% of foreign citizens).

The main portion of the surveyed residents of Belarus and foreign citizens (63.2% and 68.2% of the total number of questionnaire respondents, respectively) reported the amount of their personal expenses during the trip abroad (on food, purchasing goods, and other expenses). Among them, the indicated expenses did not exceed $500 for 65% of Belarus citizens and 73.8% of non-residents.
