Vitebsk District renovates feed mill to boost import substitution, create jobs

VITEBSK, 29 November (BelTA) – Vitebsk Broiler Poultry Factory has opened a new workshop to make import-substituting products in Vitebsk District, BelTA learned from the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee.

The public joint-stock company (OAO) Vitebsk Broiler Poultry Factory has implemented a project to renovate its feed mill. The construction began in February 2024 and was completed in September 2025, five months ahead of schedule. The project was estimated at Br106 million. The actual construction cost (excluding loan interest) amounted to Br96.2 million. The feed mill now employs 191 people, including 57 new jobs created as a result of the project.
Deputy Director General for Feed Production Olga Basko informed that the project had been implemented thanks to active government support. “We joined the Agrarian Business program for 2021-2025 and implemented the project. It will fully meet our enterprise’s needs for feed for poultry and cattle. We have built feed workshop No. 2 that will make feed for the parent flock and the finishing livestock, and a workshop for soybean processing and grain extrusion, which will help cut imports by more than 90%. We have increased the storage capacity of the elevator. Now we can store more than 130,000 tonnes of grain at a time,” Olga Basko said. The feed mill is expected to increase its production capacity from 154,000 tonnes to 225,000 tonnes per year.
Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko and Vitebsk Oblast Governor Aleksandr Subbotin attended the opening ceremony. “You have long outgrown a factory, you are already an agro-industrial company, a multi-industry one that combines both production and processing. You are a leading enterprise of our country, not only of Vitebsk Oblast. Five years ago, I visited your company and saw the numerous construction sites that were completed in 2022. New facilities were opened and are successfully operating, both the slaughtering workshop and the new poultry production workshop. Today you have a groundwork for the future. There are several new facilities, four construction sites. I am simply amazed at where you get the strength, you are just great,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
He also visited agricultural enterprises in Liozno District and Vitebsk District, toured the Orekhovsk Flax Mill, and learned about the progress of the production enterprise’s modernization as part of the investment project to set up an enterprise for the production of milk powder candies in Belarus, which is implemented by the Kommunarka confectionery manufacturer.
