U.S. charge d'affaires calls for concerted effort to combat antisemitism

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Only joint and concerted effort can help succeed in combating antisemitism, Charge d'Affaires of the USA in Belarus Jenifer Moore said at an event dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the prisoners of the Nazi camp Auschwitz, BelTA has learned.

“The memory of the Holocaust keeps teaching us lessons, in particular, in Belarus – from perseverance of survivors to the memory of the fallen and the Righteous Among the Nations. We cannot forget the courage of those who risked their life to protect and save their fellowmen and neighbors,” the diplomat said.

Jenifer Moore pointed with regret to the global rise in modern antisemitism. “In recent years the United States and other countries have been witnessing an alarming trend of burgeoning antisemitism. In addition to that, we see that the very notion of the Holocaust is getting blurred, therefore it is so important that the Belarusian government holds such events,” she said.

“At a time when many countries are forgetting or denying the past, Belarus is trying to make sure that no one will ever forget it and that it will never happen again,” the U.S. diplomat underlined.

The United States of America wants to challenge and reverse this alarming trend. Jenifer Moore noted that there are many leaders around the world, including the heads of state of Belarus and the USA who are committed to fighting antisemitism. “I am convinced that thanks to our concerted effort we will be able to succeed if we are fully determined to remember those who fell victim to it, and if we strive for a better future,” she added.
