Yelena Morgunova
MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – The Union State Committee on Standardization and Quality might be launched in the near future, Chairperson of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus Yelena Morgunova told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of the High‑Level Group of the Union State Council of Ministers, BelTA reports.
“The committee’s functions will be quite extensive. They will include protecting the markets of the Union State from hazardous products, removing barriers to the access of goods to our countries’ markets, conducting educational activities, and, most importantly, developing standardization programs for Union State products (so‑called union standards) which will be implemented in Belarus and Russia,” said Yelena Morgunova.
According to her, the foundational documents have been finalized and approved. They will be submitted for discussion to the Union State Council of Ministers and subsequently signed at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State. “That is, a decision will be made at the forthcoming meeting, and the committee will then officially begin its work,” Yelena Morgunova explained.
Union standards will be developed on the basis of national standards. “We are already implementing two programs covering meat, dairy, and juice‑based baby food, as well as energy efficiency. Programs addressing critical areas such as machine tool manufacturing and microelectronics are in their final stages of completion,” noted Yelena Morgunova.
